Derryloran Parish - January/February 2020
Rev Canon RJN Porteus 867 62261
Canon WJA Dawson 867 37151
As I prepare these notes we are preparing to take down those beautiful Christmas features of our Christ Carol Creations Festival. They can still be viewed on Derrloran Facebook. The church was beautifully decorated, the choir was in fine voice, children’s parties in the hall and a variety of services marked the occasion of our Blessed Saviour’s Birth... Indeed we thank everyone who shared in our activities!
ARCHBISHOP’S RETIREMENT: After almost 45 years’ faithful ministry we wish the Archbishop a long and pleasant future as he embarks upon his retirement. A special Service to mark the occasion will be held in the Cathedral on Sunday 2nd February at 6pm. We shall miss his wise & Godly leadership in the Diocese and send him our prayerful good wishes from the Parish.
MOTHERS’ UNION: the branch looks forward to the monthly meeting on Thursday 6th February when Stephen Slaine will be the speaker on health and well-being. Members will also be involved in the Mothering Sunday Service on 22nd March at 11.30am.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE is the Annual South American Mission Evening in Craigavon Civic Centre on Friday 7th February at 7.30pm which features a variety of presentations of the exciting things that God is doing in Mission.
LENT: We look forward to the Holy Season of Lent – with 2 regular Lenten activities:
a) ASH WEDNESDAY, which marks the beginning of Lent on 26th February, features the customary Service of Holy Communion at 7pm in Church. Lenten Services will then be held on Wednesdays during Lent at 7pm in the Choir Vestry.
b) CHRISTIAN AID LUNCHES will be held in 1st Cookstown Presbyterian Hall this year on Fridays during Lent from 12 to 2 pm, beginning on Friday 28th February. Everyone is invited to attend and support the invaluable work of the charity. Please make this a regular date during Lent and meet up with friends from across the community!
WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: This year’s service will be held in Derryloran on Friday 6th March at 8pm when the Preacher will be the Rev Diane Matchett from Kildress. Everyone is warmly invited!
